What you get
A clear AM/PM plan for three The Ordinary products without irritation
Time needed
6 weeks to introduce all three
The Ordinary is popular because it names the ingredient on the front of the bottle. That honesty is also how people get into trouble: three good actives used on the same night can add up to one red, tight face. Here is how to use the three we stock without that happening.
What each one is for
Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%: a water-free vitamin C and arbutin solution for dullness and dark marks. It can tingle for a few seconds.
Buffet peptide serum: a water-based serum for overall texture and firmness. It is the gentle one of the three.
Salicylic Acid 2% Masque: a rinse-off clay mask for congested pores and oily areas. It is a weekly treatment, not a daily one.
When each one goes on
Apply thinnest to thickest. Water-based serums before oils and creams, then sunscreen in the morning. The vitamin C solution is silicone-based, so it goes on after any water serum and before your moisturiser.
One or two evenings a week: cleanser, Salicylic masque for up to ten minutes, rinse, then only Buffet and moisturiser that night.
The two combinations to avoid
Do not use the salicylic masque and the vitamin C solution on the same night until you know your skin tolerates both. And do not start all three in the same week. Add one, wait two weeks, then add the next, so that if something stings you know which bottle it was.
Why sunscreen is part of this routine
Vitamin C and arbutin only help with dark marks if you stop new ones from forming. In Kathmandu's altitude sun that means a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning, reapplied if you are outdoors at midday.
Most people can use the Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% solution once a day, usually at night. Start with every other night for two weeks if your skin is sensitive.
Can I use the salicylic acid masque with vitamin C?
Not on the same night when you are starting out. Use the masque on its own evening, then go back to your vitamin C the next night.
