Four products, one of them non-negotiable. A routine you can keep up in a hostel with shared taps and tight months.

Most skincare advice assumes a bathroom cabinet and a card that works online. Hostel life in Nepal looks different. Shared taps, hard water in some buildings, unpredictable storage and months where money is genuinely tight.
Sunscreen first, because none of the rest matters if pigmentation keeps being triggered. Then a gentle cleanser that does not leave your face tight. Then a simple moisturiser, gel in summer and cream in winter. Then one treatment for the concern you actually have.
Fancy packaging and celebrity endorsements cost money without touching your skin. A big pump bottle of a simple moisturiser lasts longer per rupee than a small jar with a story. Buy the size that suits your storage, not the prettiest box.
Keep your routine small enough to fit in one pouch so morning rush does not skip steps. Store it out of direct sun, because a windowsill in Kathmandu gets hot enough to degrade sunscreen. If water is very hard in your building, a final splash of filtered water on your face before moisturiser helps with the tight, filmy feeling.
Cut the extras, never the sunscreen. Cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen will carry your skin for months. If you have to choose between a new serum and replacing your sunscreen, replace the sunscreen.
Sometimes the formula is better, but price and results are not the same thing. Consistency with a basic routine usually beats occasional use of an expensive one.
It is not ideal. Body formulas are richer and more fragranced, which can clog pores. If it is all you have for a night, it will not hurt, but buy a face moisturiser when you can.
Do not scrub at the film. Use a gentle cleanser, rinse with filtered water if possible, and moisturise straight after.
No. It is optional, and the money is better spent on sunscreen.
Keep everything in one small pouch with a hook so it does not sit on a wet ledge. Label your products with your name, because hostel bathrooms eat bottles. Use a pump rather than a jar when you can, since fingers in a shared jar are how breakouts spread through a floor.
If water is hard in your building, fill a small bottle with filtered water for a final rinse. It sounds fussy, and it takes twenty seconds, and it is the single cheapest upgrade to a routine that otherwise feels like it is not working.
Buy one new thing at a time and give it a month. If you buy three products together, you will never know which one helped and which one caused a reaction, and you will have spent three months of your budget finding out nothing. One product, one month, one decision.
Finally, do not compare your routine to what you see online. Most of those shelves are paid for by brands. A cleanser, a moisturiser, sunscreen and one treatment is a complete routine, and it will outperform an expensive routine you only manage twice a week.
